It is a great feeling when you know that you are really good at what you do. There are artists who paint incredible works of art, writers who can stir deep emotions within us at the stroke of a pen, and what about those who are master’s of food and different ingredients and can cook unbelievably delightful meals? Each one is an artist at what they do.
But to become a professional at something doesn’t come without cost or struggle. People are not simply born with success and it is not freely given to all. Success is earned by those who work for it. The road to success isn’t easy. There are many pitfalls, distractions, setbacks, and dark places. If you are not alert, discouragement will creep in and begin to guide you on your journey with its goal to destroy your motivation, will, and eventually the life God has planned for you.
When you are striving to become the best you can be at something, things won’t always be easy. You will experience discouragement, fear, uncertainty, and setbacks. But give all of that to God and be free from your burdens. Ask Him to help you overcome the things that hinder you or make you afraid, and then trust Him to take you where you need to be.
God, I am beginning to feel discouragement and fear creep into my life and work. It is difficult to shake these feelings and continue moving forward. I give these burdens to You. Please give me the strength and courage that I need.
II Chronicles 27:6 – “Jotham’s strength was rooted in his steady and determined life of obedience to God.”
