Emotions and our reactions to certain events and situations can take control over our lives if we allow them free reign. We may even think the way we are handling these circumstances is good, but if we do not ask for God’s wisdom and discernment to see the way things really are, we could be way off the mark.

There was a time when Saul was given specific instructions by God on what to do for a particular event. In his heart, Saul felt that he knew how to handle it in a better way, so he reacted impulsively and chose not to follow God’s direction but instead his own path. Saul’s disobedience and lack of faith displeased God, and he was ultimately unable to experience God’s blessing over the situation and eventually his life.

God, help me not to lean on my own understanding and make important decisions based on my limited perspective. Instead, please give me Your discernment and wisdom and help direct me in both small and big decisions in my life. Your peace will be my guide.

1 Samuel 15:20-22 – “‘Why did you not obey the LORD?’ ‘But I did obey the LORD,’ Saul said. ‘I went on the mission the LORD assigned me…and took…the best of what was devoted to God in order to sacrifice them to the LORD your God…’ But Samuel replied, ‘Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice…'”
